Civil Design Engineering Director (Consultancy)

APPLY Job Description

Civil Engineering Director

Location: Central London | Hybrid Working
Salary: £80,000-£100,000 DOE
Type: Permanent, Full Time

I'm working with an established engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Civil Engineering Director to lead and develop its existing civil engineering team from its Central London office.

This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering leader who wants genuine autonomy to shape the future direction of a successful team, develop client relationships and drive growth - without having to build a business from scratch.

You'll inherit an established team of experienced Civil Engineers and Technicians, alongside a strong pipeline of projects generated both directly and through the wider group.

The team currently delivers highways and drainage infrastructure design across a varied portfolio including residential developments, schools, commercial and industrial projects.

The Role

As Civil Engineering Director, you'll take responsibility for leading and developing the team while helping shape the wider civil engineering offering.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing and developing the existing civil engineering team.
  • Overseeing technical delivery, quality and standards across projects.
  • Managing resources, workloads and project delivery.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and new clients.
  • Identifying new opportunities and contributing to the wider business development strategy.
  • Supporting and mentoring engineers and technicians.
  • Working alongside the wider senior leadership team to shape the future direction of the business.
  • Growing the civil engineering offering and developing new areas of work.
  • Maintaining strong technical, commercial and client service standards.

About You

We're looking for an experienced and commercially minded Civil Engineer with the technical background and ambition to lead and grow a successful team.

You'll ideally have:

  • An MEng degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
  • Ideally Chartered status with the ICE (MICE).
  • 15+ years' relevant UK experience.
  • Strong technical experience in below-ground drainage and highways infrastructure design.
  • Experience with drainage and highways design software, including PDS and Flow.
  • Strong residential development experience and an understanding of the commercial side of project delivery.
  • Experience obtaining highway and drainage approvals.
  • Previous experience leading technical teams and managing project resources.
  • Strong client relationship and business development experience.
  • A commercially aware, proactive and collaborative approach.
  • The ambition to develop and grow an established civil engineering team.

Experience across London and the South East, alongside an established network within the residential development and construction sectors, would be advantageous.

Why This Role?

The important thing about this opportunity is that the foundations are already there.
You're not being asked to build a civil engineering division from scratch. There is an established team, existing clients, a strong project pipeline and the backing of a wider engineering group.
The successful candidate will have the autonomy to develop their own strategy, strengthen client relationships, identify new opportunities and ultimately shape a significant part of the business.

Package

  • £80,000-£100,000 salary, depending on experience
  • 25 days' annual leave + option to purchase 3 additional days
  • Company pension
  • Comprehensive private healthcare including family cover
  • Life assurance
  • Professional subscriptions paid
  • Travelcard loan
  • Central London office with hybrid working

If you're currently operating at Associate Director, Technical Director or Civil Engineering Director level and are interested in taking ownership of an established team with genuine scope to grow the business, I'd be keen to have a confidential conversation.
