Senior Electrical Engineer - Building Services
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £50,000-£58,000 + Car Allowance

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing Building Services team, supporting projects across the North-West and Yorkshire.

This is a high-autonomy role for an engineer who is confident working at the interface between site, client and design team. You will be responsible for gathering accurate technical information from existing buildings, advising clients and project teams, and ensuring that site intelligence is effectively translated into the design process.

As part of a national MEP team, you will work closely with established design teams while acting as the key electrical technical contact for projects across the Northern region.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining technical expertise with client interaction, site work and practical problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical site appraisals, condition surveys and technical feasibility assessments.
• Assess existing electrical installations, systems and infrastructure.
• Gather and interpret technical information to support design development.
• Produce clear and professional site reports, sketches, photographs and technical briefing documents.
• Act as the electrical engineering lead in meetings with clients, architects, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Provide practical electrical engineering advice throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identify site-based constraints and develop or recommend appropriate technical solutions.
• Liaise closely with the design team to ensure accurate site information is incorporated into electrical designs.
• Review electrical installations during construction to ensure alignment with design intent and required quality standards.
• Undertake periodic site inspections and provide technical observations and recommendations.
• Support projects from initial site appraisal through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Coordinate electrical requirements with mechanical services, architecture, building surveying and other disciplines.

About You
You will have a strong background in electrical building services design and engineering, together with the confidence to work independently across multiple projects and sites.

You should have:

• Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience undertaking site surveys, technical assessments and construction-stage inspections.
• The ability to assess existing installations and identify practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to produce clear, professional technical reports and documentation.
• Confidence representing an organisation independently with clients and project teams.
• A proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the North.
• Experience working within a consultancy, contractor or similar building services environment.

Desirable

• Chartered status or working towards professional registration with CIBSE or IET.
• Existing knowledge of the construction market across the North of England.
• Established relationships with contractors, consultants or other construction professionals.
• Broader understanding of mechanical services and multidisciplinary building design.
• Experience working on projects from initial feasibility through to commissioning and handover.
