An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Lead or Senior Associate to join a leading international construction consultancy, supporting the delivery of one of Europe's most significant energy infrastructure projects.
Our client is seeking a commercially astute and technically accomplished professional to lead the commercial management and contract administration of a major EPC contract on a high-profile electricity interconnector project.
This is a senior, client-facing position requiring exceptional FIDIC contract knowledge, ideally including the Silver Book, alongside strong commercial leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
The successful candidate will join an established and growing Energy and Utilities team, with opportunities to work across a wider portfolio of major infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management and administration of a major EPC contract, ensuring contractual obligations are effectively managed throughout delivery.
- Provide expert interpretation and application of FIDIC conditions of contract, particularly the Silver Book where applicable.
- Oversee commercial performance, contractual compliance, risk exposure and change management.
- Manage contractual notices, variations, claims, entitlements and commercial negotiations.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to the client, identifying risks and opportunities and recommending appropriate actions.
- Lead and support an established commercial team, providing technical guidance and mentoring.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with the client, contractors, project teams and other stakeholders.
- Support the resolution of contractual and commercial issues through a collaborative and commercially pragmatic approach.
- Ensure robust commercial reporting, governance and contract administration procedures.
- Represent the consultancy professionally in senior-level client meetings and commercial discussions.
About You
We are looking for an experienced commercial professional with a proven track record of managing complex infrastructure contracts.
Essential experience:
- Significant hands-on experience administering and managing FIDIC contracts.
- Strong EPC contract experience on major capital projects.
- Proven commercial management experience, ideally at Senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Lead, Associate or Senior Associate level.
- Ability to interpret complex contractual provisions and provide commercially sound advice.
- Experience managing commercial risks, contractual entitlements, claims and change.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and develop other commercial professionals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative approach to working with clients and contractors.
Desirable experience:
- Direct experience with FIDIC Silver Book contracts.
- Energy, power transmission, interconnectors, utilities or other major infrastructure projects.
- Experience working for an engineering contractor, EPC contractor or construction consultancy.
- Professional chartership, such as MRICS or equivalent.
Working Arrangements
The role offers flexible hybrid working, including:
- One day per week at the client's London office, normally Thursday.
- Site visits in Kent, ideally approximately once every fortnight.
- Occasional travel to Europe, typically every other month.
- Flexibility to work from home or the consultancy's offices for the remainder of the week.
If you have strong FIDIC and EPC experience and are looking for a senior commercial leadership opportunity within the energy infrastructure sector, we would be delighted to hear from you.
