Barr Construction has been awarded two construction contracts worth £10 to extend Tesco supermarkets in the Shetland and Orkney isles.

The Paisley-based contractor has been appointed by the retail giant to double the size of an existing supermarket in Lerwick, Shetland, and to construct a timber-framed store on Orkney.

Both projects are on the sites of existing Tesco stores, which will remain open during the construction.

Barclay Chalmers, managing director of Barr Construction, said: "Having worked with Tesco for over 20 years we have developed a solid relationship with the retailer, working on numerous new build projects, extensions and refurbishments throughout the UK."
