Blackpool plans £82m coastal defence scheme

24 Aug 10 Blackpool Council wants contractors with coastal defence expertise to help it plan the procurement process for £82m-worth of coastal defence work.

Blackpool Council wants contractors with coastal defence expertise to help it plan the procurement process for £82m-worth of coastal defence work.

The recently established Fylde Coast Multi Area Agreement, which covers the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre local authority areas, will deliver a range of coastal infrastructure and public realm improvements.

The programme of works will be identified and carried out over the next 10 years.

The local authorities want interested constructors with experience of delivering major coastal protection schemes to participate in “pre-procurement discussions” which will assist in scoping of the project.

The councils intend to hold informal discussions with a small number of contractors during September 2010.

The scheduled date for the start of the formal award process is 4 October.
