Eric Wright wins £180m Blackpool BSF

2 Jul 10 Lancashire construction company Eric Wright Group has been selected as preferred bidder for Blackpool's £180m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Lancashire construction company Eric Wright Group has been selected as preferred bidder for Blackpool's £180m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The Bamber Bridge-based contractor saw off competition from Morgan Sindall to clinch the deal from Blackpool Council.

Education specialist Northgate Managed Services will handle the IT element of the contract.

The project will cover all eight secondary schools and three special schools in the borough.

Most of the schools date from the 1950s and will be remodelled, while two new education facilities will be purpose-built.

The plans include the country’s first 'studio school', designed to deliver vocational training to students in the 14-19 age group.

The first school to be delivered through the programme is scheduled to open in time for the beginning of the new school term in September 2012.

The Blackpool scheme is in Wave 5 of the £55m government-funded programme that will see every secondary school in the country remodelled or rebuilt.
