Mansell has won an £11.1m project to improve the Accident & Emergency Department and Fracture Clinic at Basildon University Hospital, Essex.
The project for Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was secured through the ProCure21 Framework.
The existing single-storey department is to be extended outwards over two storeys using a lightweight steel frame. An additional refurbishment element will include extensive strip-out, re-modelling and fitting-out. The department will expand into new space created within the former Endoscopy Unit. Mansell successfully completed a project to provide the new Endoscopy Unit last year.
Work is to be carried out in a number of phases to ensure minimum disruption to the on-going services of the departments.
The project will take two and a half years to complete and will be organised so that services are maintained and inconvenience to patients is kept to a minimum where possible.
The project has recently begun on site and is expected to finish in May 2012.
