St. Modwen has been given outline planning consent for a £270m regeneration scheme on the site of the former Livestock Market at Firepool in Taunton.

The firm will now work up more detailed designs for construction of around 113,000 sq ft of office space, plus hotel, and 49 apartments, as part of the first phase of development for the wider 7-hectare riverside site.

Morgan Sindall has already completed a first phase of on-site improvement and enhancement works, which included refurbishment of the former Auction Hall with associated demolition and landscaping.

St Modwen's Firepool development will be delivered in a number of phases over an anticipated 12 year period.

It is the first phase of Project Taunton, a 50-hectare regeneration scheme which will include 500,000 sq ft of office space in total, leisure facilities including cafes, restaurants, foodstore, hotel, and over 400 homes.
