Arcadis commissioned for Camden Town station upgrade

16 Mar 17 Transport for London has appointed Arcadis as civil and tunnelling design consultant for the £136m capacity upgrade works planned for Camden Town tube station.

Arcadis has been commissioned to provide a value enhanced concept design, detailed design and construction support.

The number of people using Camden Town station has increased by 60% in the last 10 years and further passenger traffic is predicted. The upgrade works will alleviate congestion and facilitate the movement of people through the creation of a second entrance and exit. New access tunnels and a new entrance hall will be built, with three new escalators installed.

The Camden Town Station Capacity Upgrade has recently been confirmed as one of the Mayor of London’s key priority projects for the capital.

Arcadis project director Tim Hockney said: “Our appointment at Camden is part of a long standing relationship with Transport for London, and will see us building on the success of our earlier involvement delivering capacity upgrade work at Holborn station. These upgrade works are essential if the tube network is to support London’s growing population, and Camden Town is one of the busiest stations on the network, long prone to overcrowding and access problems, particularly at weekends and weekday peak times. It is vital that we continue to invest in creating world-class facilities right across our public transport network, thereby enabling people to move around the city with ease.”

Value enhancement of the concept design has now commenced, with construction expected to start in late 2019. Arcadis will be providing construction support through to anticipated completion in 2024.  Subconsultants at Camden are OTB Engineering, CJ Associates and Mace.
