BAM picked for US embassy project

8 Oct 13 BAM International has been awarded a US$28.5m (£17.7m) contract for work on the new US embassy building in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The contract includes the superstructure for the new building as well as demolition of the existing embassy, earthworks and piling.

BAM is acting as a subcontractor to BL Harbert International of Birmingham, Alabama, which won a design and build contract from the US Department of State - Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. BAM is due to complete its work by the second quarter of 2015.

New diplomatic facilities totalling 47,000m2 will be constructed on the existing embassy complex. The embassy is located in the historic centre of Jakarta, surrounded by national government offices. When completed, the office complex will provide workspace for approximately 1,300 embassy employees. The new complex will include a 10-storey tower for consular and office space, with an attached residence for Marine security guards, as well as a multi-story car park.
