Bechtel accepts $48.5m to cancel Romanian project

31 May 13 Bechtel and the Romanian National Roads Authority have jointly agreed on a settlement to end the contract for works on part of the Autostrada Transilvania.

The agreed settlement amount of US$48.5m (£32m) is compensation for damages incurred since the contract renegotiation in late 2011, after which works were unable to proceed as planned, leading to the eventual suspension of the works for a section of the route.

Bechtel said that it and its joint venture partner Enka have been committed to supporting the client throughout the duration of the contract.
