The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA), which has produced the draft document in concert with other industry organisations, wants feedback from equipment owners and users by 1st July.

Failure of the ground on which construction plant stands and moves is a frequent cause of minor incidents and near misses on sites, as well as more serious injuries and even fatalities. The new guidance – called Ground Conditions for Construction Plant – deals with ground bearing pressures and loadings from mobile plant, and assessment and engineering of the ground’s capability to withstand the loadings.

It addresses coordination of statutory duties, with reference to the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations and the Temporary Works Regulations.

The draft document and response form can be found at cpa.uk.net/sfpsg/#groundconditions
