The investment programme was held back while the future of Hermitage Quarry was uncertain, but the planning permission, finally granted in 2013, has guaranteed at least another 25 years of production.

The two new vehicles, both Bell B50Ds, replace older Bell trucks.

Chairman Pat Gallagher said: “Once we knew that the quarry had a long future ahead of it, we could implement plans to invest in the best plant and machinery that we could. The old Bell ADTs have served us well over the last eight years so we knew immediately that we would go back to Bell Equipment to get our replacements. With Bell you know what you get – good, reliable trucks that won’t let you down. The trucks will be worked hard with the new quarry extension and we know that they will live up to the challenge.”
