Mansell secures £3 million second phase at care home in Croydon

7 Dec 10 Mansell has secured the £3 million second phase of works at James Terry Court, a care home in Croydon for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI).

The contract will involve the construction of a West Wing which will provide 28 bedrooms alongside a remodelled and refurbished main building consisting of 13 independent living flats. The facilities will provide residential, nursing and dementia care and will feature a new dining area, health and beauty room and reception.

The £7.5 million East Wing of the new purpose built care home is currently being rebuilt and redeveloped and is due to be handed over next summer. Once completed, the East Wing will provide up to 48 bed-sitting rooms with large communal areas. The rooms will include full ensuite wet rooms and ceiling hoists in spacious bedrooms which exceed the Government’s minimum requirements.

Construction of the second phase is due to begin in summer 2011 and complete in summer 2012.

The RMBI is a national charity with 17 care homes throughout England and Wales but has a particular history in Croydon; its first ever care home was built in 1850 in East Croydon which still stands to this day.
