David Jenkinson, aged 46, has been the divisional chief executive of Persimmon's North Division since January 2013 with responsibility for 12 regions from the East Midlands to Scotland. He has been with Persimmon for more than 16 years and previous roles include managing director of Persimmon Homes North East and regional managing director.
Chairman Nicholas Wrigley said: "Dave will bring a wealth of operational experience to the board. His appointment again demonstrates the strength of our divisional management teams and the company's ability to promote internal candidates to the board in accordance with our succession planning policy."
Mr Jenkinson's opposite number for the south, Nigel Greenway, was appointed to the board at the beginning of 2013.
