Parsons Brinckerhoff picked for Saudi public transport

8 Jul 13 Balfour Beatty subsidiary Parsons Brinckerhoff has been appointed in a programme management role on the Makkah public transport programme (MPTP) in Saudi Arabia.

The Parsons Brinckerhoff contract for the Development Commission of Makkah & Mashaaer (DCOMM) has an expected duration of 60 months and a fee of £61m.

DCOMM has appointed Makkah Mass Rail Transit Company (MMRTC) to act as the programme management office consultant, to oversee the implementation of MPTP.

Makkah’s plan is for an integrated system which covers all means of public transport. The project in Makkah includes a network of trains consisting of four metro lines, with total lengths of 114 km and 62 stations. In addition, the project includes a network of bus transport that covers the city of Makkah in four different levels, including bus rapid transit (BRT), local bus, feeder bus service and shuttle bus.

Parsons Brinckerhoff is responsible for complete programme management services, including supervision of consultants and contractors; development of project controls; procurement management; contract administration; management of third parties; and technical management.

George Pierson, president and chief executive officer of Parsons Brinckerhoff said: “Once completed, this programme of work will leave a legacy for generations to come.”
