Skanska picked for Czech rail upgrade

8 Nov 11 Skanska has been awarded a CZK942m (£32m) contract to modernise a railway junction in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration (RIA) is client for the work, which covers a transit corridor in Pilsen.

Funds will be provided by the State Fund for Transportation Infrastructure and the work will be co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund. The project is to be carried out by Skanska over the next two and a half years.

Work on the Cheb line work includes connecting the Pilsen main station with the beginning of the Pilsen-Stříbro line, while the Domažlice line work involves modernization from the Pilsen main rail station to the southern suburb. The construction also includes a complex reconstruction of the subways of the Pilsen main station. Key activities include rebuilding several bridges. 

Skanska Czech Republic has 5,600 employees in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Skanska is also active in the Czech Republic in the development of office buildings through Skanska Commercial Development Europe.
