Bill Oliver, St Modwen's current chief executive, retires on 30th November 2016 after 16 years on the board. Mark Allen will join at the beginning of that month for a short handover period.
Mark Allen, aged 43, has been chief executive of Unite since 2006. He joined Unite in 1999 from KPMG and was chief financial officer from 2003 to 2006.
St Modwen chairman Bill Shannon said: "Mark has an impressive track record and is highly regarded in the listed property sector. I am certain that under his leadership the company will continue to build on its unrivalled regeneration expertise and proven ability to realise value from its extensive land bank. The timing of this appointment allows for a smooth handover process and we look forward to welcoming Mark to the board."
Mark Allan will be succeeded at Unite by Richard Smith, who has been the company’s managing director of operations since 2012
Unite Group chairman Phil White said: "I would like to thank Mark for his outstanding performance as CEO since 2006. Unite's performance has been transformed under his tenure and he leaves the business well positioned to continue its growth and profitability.”
He said that Richard Smith had been “at the heart of Unite's market-leading offering for the last five years, working closely with the existing experienced executive team, and is already a very familiar face to investors”.
