Mr Frew has been vice-president of the STUC for the past 12 months. He was confirmed as president last week on the final day of its annual congress in Perth. He will serve for a year.
Mr Frew said: “It is an honour for both myself and Ucatt to be elected to this position. I plan to use the next 12 months to highlight the increasing problems that all Scottish workers are having just to make ends meet. This is a result of the ConDem government policies such as pay freezes and cuts in benefits. Equally we need to push the case for significant investment in infrastructure projects to kick start growth and create jobs in Scotland.”
