Associate Director - Building Surveying
London | Construction Consultancy | Up to £90,000 DOE
Build the team. Win the work. Shape what comes next.
If you're an experienced Building Surveyor who wants more than simply managing projects, this is an opportunity to step into a role where your ideas, relationships and commercial drive can genuinely influence the direction of a growing consultancy.
We're working with an ambitious multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy that has built an excellent reputation across the UK and internationally. With the London operation continuing to grow, they're looking for an Associate Director - Building Surveying to play a key part in the next phase of that journey.
This is a role for someone who wants to be visible, influential and commercially involved - developing clients, winning new instructions, mentoring the next generation and helping shape the future of the Building Surveying team.
What you'll be getting involved in
You'll have a varied mix of technical, client-facing and leadership responsibilities, including:
- Building and developing strong relationships with new and existing clients
- Identifying opportunities, winning instructions and supporting business development
- Preparing fee proposals and contributing to the growth of the service line
- Leading professional Building Surveying instructions across a varied portfolio
- Working on prime and super-prime residential, landmark commercial, theatres and major mixed-use developments
- Advising on Party Wall matters and Licence to Alter projects
- Producing specifications, tender and contract documentation
- Contract Administration, dilapidations and defect diagnosis
- Measured and building surveys across a range of property types
- Supporting Expert Witness instructions, including inspections and CPR35-compliant reporting
- Maintaining strong client relationships and consistently high levels of service
- Mentoring surveyors and supporting APC candidates through their development
- Working closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities and shape the team's future
Why this role?
It's about more than the job title.
You'll have genuine exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence how the London Building Surveying function develops.
You'll also benefit from:
- A clear route to Director as the business continues to grow
- Real commercial exposure and the opportunity to build your own client base
- High-quality and high-profile instructions across London
- A multidisciplinary team spanning Building Surveying, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Bank Monitoring and Expert Witness
- The opportunity to build and develop a team, rather than simply inherit one
- A consultancy where senior people have the autonomy to make decisions and influence strategy
What are they looking for?
You'll ideally be:
- MRICS qualified, with an RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree
- Experienced within a consultancy environment
- Strong across professional Building Surveying services
- Comfortable developing client relationships and contributing to business development
- Commercially minded with an understanding of fee generation and account growth
- Confident leading, mentoring and developing others
- A strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; CAD/BIM experience would be advantageous
The opportunity
This could suit an existing Associate Director looking for greater autonomy and a bigger platform, or a Senior Building Surveyor ready to make the step into a genuine leadership position.
You'll be joining a business with ambitious plans, working on some of London's most interesting property assets and having the senior-level exposure, autonomy and opportunity to make your mark.
Salary: Up to £90,000 DOE
