MRICS Building Surveyor
London / Nottingham | £45,000 - £60,000 + Benefits | Hybrid & Flexible Working
A Building Surveying role with variety, autonomy and room to make your mark.
If you're a Chartered Building Surveyor who enjoys getting stuck into technically interesting work, working directly with clients and having plenty of variety in your workload, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
We're working with an established independent construction consultancy with 50+ years of experience and a growing Building Surveying team. With an increasing pipeline of work, they're looking for an MRICS Building Surveyor to join their close-knit team, with flexibility to work between London and Nottingham.
The workload is genuinely varied, covering everything from defect investigations and condition surveys through to refurbishment projects, contract administration and planned maintenance programmes.
What makes the role interesting?
You won't be pigeonholed into one area of Building Surveying.
You'll work across a diverse portfolio of residential, healthcare, education, public sector and commercial properties, with project values typically ranging from £25,000 to £250,000+.
You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your instructions, build long-term client relationships and get involved throughout the project lifecycle - from the initial inspection and diagnosis right through to procurement and delivery.
Your role
Your workload could include:
- Carrying out building condition and defect surveys across a varied property portfolio
- Investigating building pathology, damp and mould and recommending appropriate remedial solutions
- Undertaking PPM surveys across education, healthcare and public sector properties
- Producing technical reports, schedules of condition, specifications and schedules of work
- Completing measured surveys and producing drawings using AutoCAD
- Advising clients on repair, maintenance and refurbishment requirements
- Acting as Contract Administrator on refurbishment and maintenance projects
- Managing projects from inception through to completion, including programme, cost, quality and risk
- Supporting procurement and tender exercises, reviewing contractor returns and making recommendations
- Carrying out site inspections and monitoring works against specifications
- Investigating insurance claims and providing technical advice throughout the claims process
- Undertaking dilapidations surveys and reporting
- Presenting findings and recommendations directly to clients
- Managing multiple instructions while maintaining a high standard of technical delivery
- Developing strong, long-term relationships with clients, contractors and professional teams
What are they looking for?
This role would suit an MRICS Building Surveyor who enjoys a broad workload and is confident managing their own projects and client relationships.
You'll ideally have:
- MRICS qualification
- Strong general Building Surveying experience
- Contract Administration experience
- Experience with condition and defect surveys
- Good knowledge of building pathology and remedial works
- Strong technical report-writing skills
- AutoCAD experience
- Excellent organisation and time management
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and contractors
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
Experience within the public sector or historic buildings would also be beneficial.
What's on offer?
- £45,000 - £60,000, depending on experience
- 27 days' annual leave, including 3 days over Christmas
- Hybrid working
- Flexible working hours
- Professional subscriptions and fees paid
- Performance-related bonus opportunities
- Travel expenses covered
- Genuine progression opportunities as the Building Surveying team continues to grow
The opportunity
This is a chance to join a consultancy where you can see the impact of your work, take ownership of your projects and continue developing across the wider Building Surveying discipline.
Whether you're based in London, Nottingham or somewhere within easy reach of both, this could be a great next move for an MRICS surveyor looking for more variety, flexibility and responsibility.
