The Opportunity We are supporting an established resource recovery and waste management organisation looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to maintain and repair specialist recycling and waste-handling equipment at customer sites across the UK.

You will work primarily within a three-hour radius of your home, with some UK-wide travel required when needed. The role involves planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, installations and technical customer support across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.

Important to Know

• Salary: £50,000 per year
• Location: Birmingham
• Contract: Permanent
• Primarily field-based, with travel generally within a three-hour radius of home
• Some UK-wide travel will be required
• The role involves working independently at customer sites
• Experience with waste-handling equipment is preferred, although relevant experience with plant, industrial or specialist machinery will be considered
• Strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding experience is required
• Experience with single-phase and three-phase electrical systems is required
• Ability to read electrical and hydraulic circuit diagrams is required

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on recycling and waste-handling equipment.
• Inspect, test and diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Repair or replace defective components using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Install and repair electrical wiring, electronic components and hydraulic systems.
• Reassemble and test equipment to confirm it is safe and operating correctly.
• Assist with machinery installations, including three-phase electrical connections.
• Carry out minor welding repairs where required.
• Complete service reports, inspection records and photographic evidence.
• Provide technical advice and support to customers.
• Train customer employees in the safe operation of equipment.
• Provide estimates and technical updates where required.
• Take ownership of engineering issues and work to minimise equipment downtime.
• Plan and manage your workload effectively.
• Follow customer site rules and maintain high health and safety standards.

Essential Requirements

• Experience servicing or repairing machinery or equipment in a field service, plant, industrial, waste or related engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
• Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic circuit diagrams.
• Experience using electrical and hydraulic testing equipment.
• Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
• Ability to carry out minor welding repairs.
• Good understanding of safe working practices.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Professional customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and take ownership of technical problems through to resolution.

Desirable

• City & Guilds qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a similar relevant qualification.
• Previous experience working specifically with waste-handling or recycling equipment.
