We are recruiting Trainee Plastic Fabricators for a growing manufacturer based in Romsey. The company produces specialist plastic pipework and equipment used in heating and cooling systems, including major data-centre projects.

Previous plastic fabrication experience is not required. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience using hand tools who would like to learn specialist fabrication and plastic-welding techniques.

Role Overview

As a Trainee Plastic Fabricator, you will help manufacture plastic pipe assemblies, tanks and vessels to the required specifications.

You will use hand and power tools to measure, cut, shape and assemble plastic components. Full training will be provided in the specialist fabrication and jointing methods used within the business.

This is a practical and physically active role requiring accuracy, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

Your CV must demonstrate experience using hand tools, power tools or completing practical work. Applications without evidence of practical experience or confidence using tools may not progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, bending and shaping plastic materials
• Using hand tools and hand-held power tools safely
• Assembling plastic pipework, tanks and vessels
• Reading and following drawings, specifications and work instructions
• Creating and using templates and jigs
• Learning specialist plastic-welding and jointing techniques
• Inspecting completed work and identifying faults
• Repairing or reworking products when required
• Supporting experienced fabricators and production colleagues
• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
• Following all company health and safety procedures

Successful candidates will receive training in specialist thermoplastic fabrication techniques, including socket fusion, butt fusion, electrofusion, hot-gas welding, extrusion welding, injection welding, heat shrinking and solvent jointing.

You will work alongside experienced colleagues while developing your practical skills and knowledge.

• Experience or confidence using hand tools
• Good practical ability and manual dexterity
• Ability to measure accurately and pay close attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions and work methodically
• Willingness to learn new technical skills
• Reliable, conscientious and able to work well within a team
• Comfortable undertaking practical and physically active work
• Able to travel reliably to Romsey for a 7:00am start

Direct experience in plastic fabrication is not required.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience using hand-held power tools
• Experience in manufacturing, construction, engineering, maintenance, assembly or another practical environment
• Experience measuring, cutting, drilling or assembling materials
• Ability to understand basic technical drawings
• GCSEs in Maths and Science or equivalent
• An engineering qualification or apprenticeship

Relevant practical experience may have been gained through employment, education, training, volunteering or personal projects.

Salary and Working Hours

Salary: Approximately £30,871 per year, including scheduled overtime
Location: Romsey, Hampshire
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm, and Friday, 7:00am to 1:00pm
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent

The trainee rate is £13.00 per hour. The working pattern includes 39 basic hours and five scheduled overtime hours paid at 1.33 times the standard rate.

Additional overtime may be available. Experienced Plastic Fabricators may be considered for a rate of up to £15.00 per hour, depending on experience.

The employer may introduce shift work in the future, although this is not expected within the next six months and remains to be confirmed.

Working Environment

This workshop-based role involves manual handling, regular use of hand and power tools, working with equipment, solvents and chemicals, and standing for extended periods. It may also involve working in confined spaces or occasionally at height.

You must follow all health and safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment.

Interview Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview in Romsey lasting approximately one hour. A hiring decision will usually be made following the interview.
