Salary: Circa. £50,000 - £60,000 DOE
Type: Full-Time | Permanent


The Opportunity

A well-established and growing transport & infrastructure consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its Birmingham office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport planner to take greater ownership of development and infrastructure projects, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment and having the opportunity to develop client relationships, lead projects and support the growth of the wider team.

The consultancy delivers integrated services across transport planning, highways, drainage and environmental disciplines, providing exposure to a varied project portfolio and the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle.


The Role

As a Senior / Principal Transport Planner, you will take responsibility for the technical delivery and management of transport planning projects, working closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary project teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans
  • Leading transport planning projects from feasibility through to planning and delivery
  • Undertaking junction capacity assessments and traffic modelling
  • Providing technical advice to clients and project teams
  • Liaising with local authorities, stakeholders and other consultants
  • Managing project programmes, workloads and technical deliverables
  • Reviewing technical work and ensuring a high standard of output
  • Supporting and mentoring junior and intermediate team members
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Contributing to business development and the continued growth of the transport planning team
  • Supporting bids, fee proposals and new project opportunities where appropriate

  • What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience within transport planning, ideally within a consultancy environment
  • Proven experience delivering Transport Assessments, Statements and technical reports
  • Experience with junction modelling and traffic assessment
  • Familiarity with software such as Junctions 9 (ARCADY / PICADY) and ideally LinSig, TRANSYT, VISSIM or SATURN
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning and development process
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality technical work independently
  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline
  • For Principal-Level Candidates:

  • Proven experience leading projects and managing client relationships
  • Ability to review and provide technical guidance on project outputs
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior staff
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Ability to contribute to business development and team growth
