Temporary Works Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Design Engineer to join a dynamic and multidisciplinary engineering team delivering a range of complex infrastructure and construction projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, coordination, and approval of temporary works schemes, ensuring they meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities Design and assess temporary works including (but not limited to): falsework, formwork, access platforms, scaffolding, propping, hoardings, excavation support, and crane bases.

Produce detailed design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with current codes, standards, and project requirements.

Liaise with site teams, project engineers, and external stakeholders to develop safe, practical, and economical solutions.

Undertake site visits and inspections to monitor the implementation of temporary works and provide technical support during construction.

Manage the approval process for temporary works, including preparation and presentation of design briefs and design risk assessments.

Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, health and safety legislation, and relevant quality assurance procedures.

Assist in the development of standard temporary works solutions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians as required.

Requirements Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).

Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or IStructE).

Strong understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards, and temporary works procedures (e.g. BS 5975).

Proficiency in structural analysis software.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.

Desirable Experience with BIM coordination and 3D modelling tools.

Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Supervisor (TWS) training.

Knowledge of site operations and construction sequencing.
