APPLY Job Description
We are seeking an experienced carbon and climate change professional at Associate Director or Technical Director to join a growing carbon and climate change team. The company is a leading independent environmental consultancy, underpinned by a growing team of experts in environmental policy, strategy, design, and assessment.
With a proven track record of success, they has been involved with UK Government expert groups and European Commission working groups, providing expert evidence at Public Inquiries, and helped clients gain planning consent for thousands of projects.
The Role
The work includes assessment of carbon and climate change impacts of projects in a wide range of sectors including renewable energy, transport infrastructure, industry and property. They work with developers, designers and engineers to ensure each new development minimises its carbon emissions, aligns to net zero goals, and is resilient and adaptable to future climate change impacts. They assess carbon and climate change impacts as part of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for development projects including major Development Consent Order (DCO) schemes. They are also growing our carbon and climate advisory services to support clients develop climate-related strategies, undertake climate change risk assessments and provide technical, scientific, and socioeconomic advice, based on objective, impartial and evidence based analysis of climate change policy.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to a range of on-going carbon and climate change projects. You will have a client-facing role with responsibility in terms of managing project teams and project delivery. You will lead and contribute to the development of proposals for new work. The role will be tailored depending on the successful candidate’s specific experience, but it can be expected to include involvement in some of the following activities: support for business development, developing new service areas, development of tools and templates, working collaboratively with the Environmental Policy and Economics team and training and staff management.

Core skills and experience we seek
We are seeking the following core skills and experience, or closely comparable experience and skills:
• An excellent understanding of UK climate change and planning legislation and policy
• Experience in the technical management or leadership of GHG and climate change assessments as part of EIA (DCO experience is valued, but not essential)
• Experience in drafting Environmental Statement chapters and technical reports
• Track-record in the consultancy sector
• Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English
• Experience of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups
• Experience of financial control and project management
• Line management or close oversight of junior members of a team
• Experience of bid preparation and business development activities
• High technical capability and ability to review and interpret data
• Collaborative working capabilities
• A track record with thought leadership or strategic advice
