Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with a few years' experience in building services looking for your next career move?

An established, multidisciplinary construction consultancy is looking to grow its Mechanical & Electrical team in Nottingham and is seeking a motivated Junior to Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join the team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a solid grounding in electrical building services design who wants to develop their technical expertise, gain exposure to a varied project portfolio and progress their career within a supportive consultancy environment.
Working alongside experienced engineers and senior members of the team, you'll contribute to the delivery of practical, energy-efficient and commercially effective building services solutions across a range of sectors.

The Role
You'll be involved in electrical building services design from early-stage concepts through to detailed design and project delivery, working closely with colleagues, clients, contractors and other design team members.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of electrical building services designs, including outline and detailed design packages for tender.
  • Producing electrical drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
  • Undertaking site surveys, inspections and assessments of existing electrical installations.
  • Supporting the design of lighting, small power, distribution systems, emergency lighting, fire alarms and other building electrical services.
  • Using industry-standard design software to develop and coordinate design information.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, architects and other consultants to ensure effective project coordination.
  • Attending design team meetings and occasional site visits.
  • Supporting senior engineers in delivering projects on time, to budget and to the required technical standards.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, industry standards and developments in sustainable building design.

As your experience develops, you'll have the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for your own projects and build confidence in client-facing and technical delivery responsibilities.

About You
We're looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded engineer who has already gained some practical experience in electrical building services design and is keen to continue developing within a consultancy environment.

Essential experience and qualifications:

  • HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 2-3 years' relevant experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy or building services contractor.
  • A sound understanding of electrical building services systems and their application in commercial buildings.
  • Working knowledge of current Building Regulations and the IET Wiring Regulations, including BS 7671 (18th Edition).
  • Experience producing electrical design drawings, calculations and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit, alongside electrical design and calculation software.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive approach, attention to detail and a genuine interest in developing your technical skills.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial for attending site visits.

The Opportunity
You'll join an established consultancy with a broad project portfolio spanning commercial, residential, hospitality, education, healthcare, retail and other sectors.

The team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality building services solutions, with a focus on energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and improving building performance.

You can expect:

  • A varied workload across a range of building types and project stages.
  • Support and guidance from experienced engineers and senior technical colleagues.
  • Opportunities for continued professional development and progression.
  • Exposure to client meetings, site work and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A collaborative working environment that values technical quality, integrity, innovation and strong client relationships.
  • Hybrid working, combining office collaboration with flexibility where project requirements allow.
