Bam Construct has won a £7.6m deal to construct a new leisure facility for the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

The design-and-build deal is for a sports and leisure development, together with a pre-school nursery, covering approximately 6,050sq m.

The new sports facility will feature a main hall for recreational use and competition at national level, changing rooms, a fitness centre with weights and activity rooms, squash court and a flexible use café bar area and viewing gallery.

The nursery will provide purpose built accommodation for up to 90 children of toddler and preschool ages.

The development will incorporate sustainability measures in line with the University’s wider objectives and will achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of ‘very good’.

An existing building on the site of the development will be demolished and cleared prior to construction starting.

The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2010.
