The business was formed in Stewarton, Ayrshire in 2001 but is supplying operated machines as far afield as Birmingham and Swindon.

“The business has really taken off this year and our recent investment in a whole range of equipment has been driven by demand from our own client base which has become extremely wide and diverse,” said managing director Tom Blackwood.

“Diversification has been the key in the current climate and besides looking further afield for business including civil engineering, plant hire, demolition and specialist low ground pressure machines, we have purchased this latest batch of Volvo compact excavators for specific Network Rail contracts.”

Blackwood has a fleet of more than 140 machines, mostly Volvos, including recently purchased 14-, 22- and 30-tonne excavators. The latest package is six Volvo ECR58 Plus reduced swing radius compact excavators

These have been delivered with hose rupture valves fitted to both the boom and dipper cylinders and safe load indicators for specific use on Network Rail projects. Limited slew proximity switches have also been fitted.
