BAK is working for main contractor Galliford Try on the latest phase of what is Manchester’s largest single office building project currently under way.

Based on the site of the former Colgate Palmolive plant in the heart of Salford Quays, the project involves a redevelopment/remodelling of the buildings to provide 500,000 sq ft of office space.

Incorporating the full demolition specification, the Doosan DX80R and DX35Z excavators will be used on a range of applications from breaking concrete in the standing and basement areas to digging and trenching work to build external services for the new development.

Managing director Dave Keegan said: “We have been purchasing Daewoo and Doosan excavators since 2001, dealing with Chris Proctor and the team handling the Doosan brand at Plantlink before its acquisition by Norwest Plant last year.  All the Doosan excavators have always given us excellent performance, even though some of them are over 10 years old.  With Chris and the team on-board, Norwest Plant has ensured excellent continuity of service for former Plantlink customers like ourselves.

“Even though we opened up the bidding for the new machine order to the wider market, Norwest Plant was still able to put together the best package backed by excellent finance arrangements.  In addition, the resale values of the Doosan machines exceeded our depreciation forecasts, making the package even more attractive.”
