It is one of nine schools that the contractor is building as part of the Ormiston Academy Trust’s £90m capital build project.
The George Salter Academy job involves around 4,000m2 of new-build and 6,700m2 of refurbishment over a two-year programme. The new-build element will provide new English, Science and Performance Arts departments, along with a 540-seat flexible performance area and a new school entrance.
The single storey English block will sit between two wings of the existing building, while a new science block will be built over two floors and be connected to the new entrance area.
Work will be phased to allow the school to keep going with lessons without the need for temporary classrooms.
Completion of the overall scheme is programmed for spring 2015.
