Work starts on £36m South Scotland road improvements

26 Apr 13 Contractors RJ McLeod and McLaughlin & Harvey were treated to a ministerial visit yesterday to officially start works on their Ayrshire road schemes.

RJ McLeod is the contractor for the £10.6m A77 Symington and Bogend Toll scheme. This project provides two new grade separated junctions.

McLaughlin & Harvey is the contractor for two concurrent schemes to improve the A75 in Dumfries & Galloway. The £17.13m Dunragit Bypass involves 5.3km of new carriageway to provide more overtaking opportunities. The £9m Hardgrove to Kinmount scheme provides 3.6km of new road with overtaking facilities.

Scotland’s transport minister Keith Brown visited Ayrshire to fire a metaphorical starting gun.

“This Scottish government is absolutely committed to investing in our transport infrastructure to ensure we make Scotland an attractive place to work and do business, as well as making it an attractive destination for tourists,” he said.

“These [projects] will bring real improvements on key routes to and from the Cairnryan ports, as well as providing better connections across southwest Scotland.”
