Environmental Compliance Site Manager

If so, this is an outstanding opportunity to join a globally recognised manufacturer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of environmental compliance, site operations, and continuous improvement.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and forming part of the Site Leadership Team, the Environmental Compliance Site Manager will take ownership of environmental compliance, maintenance operations, site infrastructure, and strategic improvement programmes across a highly complex manufacturing facility that produces specialist firefighting products supplied to over 150 countries worldwide.

The Opportunity

As Environmental Compliance Site Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the site remains fully compliant with its environmental permits and regulatory obligations while driving site-wide improvements that enhance operational performance, sustainability, and long-term business resilience.

Leading a multidisciplined team and working closely with senior stakeholders, regulators, consultants, and operational teams, you will play a crucial role in balancing strategic planning with day-to-day operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Lead environmental compliance across the site, ensuring adherence to permit conditions and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify compliance risks and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and enhance environmental management processes and systems.
  • Provide practical environmental guidance and support to operational teams.
  • Manage relationships with regulators, external environmental consultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Support environmental audits, inspections, reporting, and monitoring programmes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System and compliance culture.

Site Operations & Maintenance Leadership

  • Lead and develop a highly skilled maintenance function, ensuring delivery of a best-in-class preventative maintenance programme.
  • Manage a team of maintenance professionals covering both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities to maximise plant availability and operational efficiency.
  • Review and optimise preventative maintenance schedules using downtime analysis and performance data.
  • Ensure site infrastructure and operational assets remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
  • Manage contractor activities, including RAMS reviews, inductions, and performance management.
  • Oversee security and wider site management activities to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Continuous Improvement & Strategic Development

  • Develop medium and long-term improvement plans to support environmental performance and operational excellence.
  • Lead site improvement projects from concept through to implementation.
  • Establish robust compliance documentation, reporting systems, and performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for investment and infrastructure improvement across the site.
  • Support the development of future Site Protection Monitoring Programmes and environmental initiatives.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience managing environmental compliance within a permitted industrial site.
  • Strong understanding of environmental permits and regulatory obligations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying permit conditions in operational environments.
  • Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintenance management experience within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience managing contractors and overseeing RAMS processes.
  • Understanding of regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reporting.
  • Experience delivering operational improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems knowledge.
  • NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with Environment Agency engagement and UK environmental legislation.
  • Experience leading medium to large-scale engineering, infrastructure, or maintenance projects.
