The Opportunity A leading waste management and recycling organisation is looking for a hands-on Fixed Plant Fitter to maintain, repair and improve the fixed plant and mechanical equipment that supports its operations.

The role will involve working with machinery including conveyors, shredders, balers and associated plant systems within a busy operational environment.

This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanical or plant maintenance professional who enjoys fault-finding, reactive repairs and preventative maintenance.

Important to Know

Permanent position
Based in Cheshire or Craythorpe
£16-£20 per hour depending on experience
Experience in plant maintenance, mechanical maintenance, engineering or a similar role required
Planned and reactive maintenance experience required
Experience with industrial machinery advantageous
Waste, recycling, manufacturing, aggregates, quarrying or heavy industry experience beneficial

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on fixed plant and mechanical systems
Inspect, service and repair conveyors, shredders, balers and associated equipment
Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs, replacements and adjustments
Respond to breakdowns and support emergency repairs
Support planned preventative maintenance schedules
Assist with installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment and systems
Work with maintenance, engineering and operations teams to improve reliability
Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
Complete maintenance work safely and in accordance with site procedures
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts and maintenance activity
Support a clean, safe and compliant working environment

What We're Looking For

• Experience as a Plant Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Engineer or similar
• Strong mechanical and industrial equipment knowledge
• Experience with planned and reactive maintenance
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Experience with conveyors, shredders, balers or similar equipment advantageous
• Ability to work safely in a busy operational environment
• Proactive and reliable approach
• Good communication and teamwork
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
• Relevant mechanical engineering or plant maintenance qualification advantageous
• Waste, recycling, manufacturing, aggregates, quarrying or heavy industry experience beneficial
