Salary: £50,000-£65,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: 6 days per week operation

The Opportunity A leading resource recovery and recycling organisation is looking for an experienced Site Manager to take responsibility for a major processing facility in Barkston.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership position covering safety, regulatory compliance, operational performance, plant reliability, commercial performance and people leadership across a busy 24/6 operation.

You will need to be a visible and decisive operational leader with experience in waste processing, recycling, plant operations and people management.

• Senior operational leadership position
• WAMITAB / COTC qualification required, either current or demonstrably close to renewal
• IOSH training required as a minimum
• Strong understanding of waste regulation and permit compliance required
• Experience leading teams in high-risk operational environments required
• Strong mechanical awareness required
• Experience with mobile and static machinery required

Key Responsibilities Health, Safety, Environment and Compliance

• Lead health and safety standards across the site
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental permits, regulatory requirements and internal standards
• Maintain Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments, method statements and permits
• Lead accident investigations and near-miss reporting
• Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings
• Manage contractor and visitor safety
• Ensure the site remains audit-ready

Operations, Plant and Asset Management

• Manage material processing, recovery, storage, transport and offtake activity
• Maximise plant availability, throughput, quality and uptime
• Oversee the safe use of static and mobile plant
• Work with engineering teams on preventative and reactive maintenance
• Apply mechanical knowledge to support fault-finding and downtime reduction
• Drive daily planning, shift coordination and KPI reviews
• Support the production of SRF and RDF where applicable

People Leadership

• Lead, manage and develop site personnel
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels across the operation
• Support recruitment, induction, training and retention
• Set clear expectations and maintain accountability
• Conduct performance reviews
• Address underperformance where required
• Build a culture of safety, teamwork, ownership and continuous improvement

Financial and Commercial Performance

• Manage operational costs and labour efficiency
• Support budgets, forecasting and cost control
• Ensure operational delivery aligns with commercial requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
• Use operational data and KPIs to drive performance

Stakeholder Engagement

• Support regional and company-wide operational strategy
• Work closely with Engineering, Compliance, SHEQ, Logistics and Commercial teams
• Maintain relationships with regulators, contractors and external partners
• Represent the site at operational and regional review meetings
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Proven operational management experience within waste, recycling, processing or heavy industry
• Current WAMITAB / COTC qualification or demonstrably close to renewal
• IOSH training as a minimum
• Strong knowledge of waste regulation and permit compliance
• Experience leading teams in high-risk operational environments
• Strong mechanical awareness
• Experience overseeing repairs and maintenance
• Experience working with mobile and static machinery
• Confident decision-making
• Strong planning and organisation
• Strong communication skills
• Hands-on leadership style
• Ability to remain calm under pressure

Desirable Experience

• Experience producing SRF and RDF
• Experience engaging with the Environment Agency and managing permit requirements
• Operational data systems, KPI or CMMS experience
• Continuous improvement or Lean experience
