A £4.5bn plan to regenerate the Wirral waterfront is set to be approved by local councillors later today.

Wirral Waters will involve the construction of several landmark high-rise buildings, 13,000 homes, and green spaces in the borough's docklands area.

Peel Holdings, the developer behind the scheme, said it would create “tens of thousands” of construction jobs during the building phase.

If approval is granted, construction work could begin on site by 2012.

Peel is also behind a £5.5bn plan to regenerate Liverpool's docklands, known as Liverpool Waters.
