American giants in bid war for Scott Wilson

29 Jun 10 Two US firms are battling it out for British consulting engineer Scott Wilson.

Two US firms are battling it out for British consulting engineer Scott Wilson.

Yesterday, URS made a 210 pence-per-share cash offer for the London Stock Exchange-listed firm, which has its headquarters near London's Victoria station.

But it was outbid by fellow Americans CH2M Hill, whose 245 pence-per-share cash offer, trumped its initial bid.

However, URS is now considering raising its earlier offer.

"URS has matching rights arrangements agreed with Scott Wilson and is considering increasing its offer to 245 pence or above," the company said in a statement.

URS, which operates in 30 countries and employs more than 42,000 people, is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. CH2M Hill is privately-owned.

Scott Wilson, whose share price doubled following the initial URS bid, is a global engineering and design consultancy with regional centres in London, Hong Kong, Warsaw, New Delhi and Bahrain/Dubai.
