Balfour Beatty has been awarded the £104m Hartlepool Building Schools for Future contract.
The contractor saw off competition from Kier during the final stage of procurement.
Work will start in September. The first phase of the programme will involve the remodelling of Dyke House Sports and Technology College, with more than a quarter of the College demolished and rebuilt and the remainder extensively remodelled and refurbished.
The second phase will see the total rebuild of Catcote School and 80% of Manor College rebuilt as new.
The final stage will see major construction works on English Martys and High Tunstall schools, plus remodelling for a Pupil Referral Unit.
Balfour Beatty is scheduled to complete the project in 2015.
