A-Plant tools up for £2bn Amey contract

11 Oct 12 Hire company A-Plant has invested more than £1m in new equipment to support Amey’s £2bn Sheffield Streets Ahead contract.

Amey, one of A-Plant’s largest customers, has been selected by Sheffield City Council to improve and then maintain the city’s roads, pavements, bridges, street lighting and streetscene.

A-Plant has a five-year sole supply agreement with Amey for the supply of plant, tools and specialist equipment. To support the Sheffield contract it has invested in a range of equipment, including wood chippers, stump grinders, vacuum lifters, telehandlers, traffic lights, ride-on mowers, trailers and generators.

A-Plant chief executive officer Sat Dhaiwal said: “We are delighted that Amey has been awarded this impressive contract following a rigorous three year bid and we have made this investment in new equipment to ensure Amey has first rate equipment to fulfil work for the contract.  We are 100% committed to supporting Amey and have carried out a range of initiatives in recent months, including a Joint Plant Safety Awareness Day, at which 400 Amey operatives were able to try out almost 200 items of plant and equipment.”

Amey operations director Chris Morris added: “We want our teams to have the best equipment at their disposal so that we can deliver the Streets Ahead improvement works to the highest of standards with the knowledge that our plant is safe, reliable and efficient.”
