Administrators save most Daniel jobs

7 Jun 13 The joint administrators of the failed Daniel Contractors report that they are on course to save 85% of the 1,449 jobs within the group.

A deal has been reached to transfer of 553 employees of Daniel to new service providers. The 328 staff engaged in the United Utilities contract have transferred to Enterprise under TUPE regulations. A further 225, who work on the Bristol Water contract, are due to be transferred under TUPE to May Gurney and Land & Marine Engineering (now part of Murphy Group) on 12 June 12 following an agreement with the joint administrators.

Discussions are being held about the potential sale of the Subterra division of Daniel. Negotiations are also continuing over the sale of the remaining assets of Daniel.

These agreements, expected soon, together with deals previously announced, mean that the joint administrators expect 1,226 jobs to be safeguarded.

Bill Dawson and Dan Butters, partners at Deloitte, were appointed joint administrators to Daniel Contractors Limited and Land & Marine Project Engineering Limited on 15 May 2013.

Two days later, 185 staff from Land & Marine transferred to Murphy Group under TUPE. Daniel’s contract with Welsh Water was switched to another service provider on appointment on 15 May and 471 staff were transferred under TUPE.

Joint administrator Bill Dawson said: “We are pleased that the vast majority of jobs have now been safeguarded and staff are transferring to alternative service providers. We are also encouraged by discussions with potential buyers of Subterra and other assets of Daniel, and we hope to conclude negotiations soon.”
