As chair of BITC's new community leadership team, Mr Howson will look at all aspects of BITC's community initiatives, including:
- increasing investment in needy communities
- helping companies integrate community investment into their businesses
- encouraging employee volunteering
- removing barriers to investment in communities.
BITC community director Paul Buchanan said: "Business has a vital role to play in our communities and Carillion have led the way in their approach for many years. Richard Howson is a powerful advocate of our mission to significantly increase the positive impact of business in the communities of greatest need.”
Mr Howson said: "At Carillion we recognise the vital role that business can play in the communities in which we work. I have personal experience of this from community projects I ran earlier in my career and I believe this, together with the many successful community initiatives which Carillion operates, will enable me to share with others the importance to business of getting involved."
