Croydon backs L&G's office to flats plan

8 Feb 13 London Borough of Croydon’s planning committee has approved a scheme to convert the town's 24-storey Nestlé Tower into flats.

Legal & General Property acquired the 79m-high office block in January 2012 and plans to convert it into 288 apartments, all with balconies and access to a rooftop garden.

The refurbishment of what is now called St George’s House involves remodelling the profile of the top of the tower to introduce a ‘stepping’ effect to vary the height of the tower blocks, as shown in the artist's impression below.

The scheme has been designed by EPR Architects and landscape architect Charles Funke.

Legal & General’s estimated value of the scheme has not been disclosed and no contractor has been selected yet. However, the developer hopes to start on site in early 2014.
