At 78 metres high, Beckley Court on Cobourg Street will be the tallest building in Plymouth. The current highest is the 14-storey Civic Centre.

The new tower block is being developed by Threesixty Developments, which was previously called Knightsbridge Student Housing until a name-change last month. It will provide accommodation for 507 students across 15,300 m2 (165,00 sq ft) of floor space in a mix of cluster flats, studios and two-bedroom flats.

Kier is already on site demolishing an existing six-storey building to make way for the new build. Complete is expected in time for the first students to move in for September 2017. It will be operated by The Student Housing Company.

Kier Construction regional managing director Anthony Irving said: “The delivery of this major flagship project will require around 200 people working on site at its peak, which means it’s also an important scheme for Plymouth and the city’s economy, creating valuable employment and training opportunities in our local supply chain.”
