Morgan Sindall awarded £6.7 million highwood primary school scheme

16 Nov 10 Morgan Sindall has won a £6.7 million contract to design and build a new primary school in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

The construction company has been appointed to create a single-storey, split-level building at Highwood Primary School for Hertfordshire County Council, as part of the Government’s Primary Capital Programme to replace schools in poor condition.

The scheme will involve constructing the 2,600m² building, new access and parking on the playing fields at the nearby existing school. Once the building is complete, pupils and staff will move into the new, state-of-the-art facility. The original school will then be demolished to make way for new playing fields.

The building will consist of a lightweight steel frame and Morgan Sindall is working to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of Very Good through responsible sourcing of materials, recycling and using local suppliers wherever possible.

The project is due to be completed in the summer of 2012.
