Shenzhen plans five new metro lines

18 Jul 17 Construction of five new metro lines in the Chinese city of Shenzhen is set to begin this year.

The five lines will run a total of 148.9km and cost a combined 134.45 billion yuan (£15.1bn) to build.

The work has been approved as part of the fourth phase of the city’s rail network construction plan.

The five lines comprise Lines 12, 13, 14 and 16 as well as a spur to the existing Line 6. Line 12 is one of the longest of the planned lines, with a total length of 40km and 33 stations, including 18 that will serve as interchanges. The 51.km Line 14 includes a main line and a 14.1km spur line. It starts from Gangxia North Station and ends at the Shenzhen border with Huizhou in Pingshan District.

After the five lines are put into use in 2022, the city's Metro network will consist of 15 lines covering 570km.
