It is Spence’s biggest contract in 40 years of trading.

Client is Network Rail Commercial Property, which bought Victoria Place from William Ewart in 2011 for £92m.

Spence’s contract is part of a £15m refurbishment and expansion scheme, which provides improved access and reconfiguration of the existing space, with the addition of a further 10,000sq ft of retail space.

The 26-week project starts this month.

Network Rail commercial director of retail Jonathan Crick said shops in railway stations “consistently show growth levels well above the high street”. All profit from Network Rail’s retail activity is re-invested in the railway.
