Manorfield Primary School, situated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, East London, has undergone a major refurbishment including a new build two-storey extension. The steel frame building incorporates StoTherm Classic and timber cladding.
Sam Brown, Design Team Member at Tower Hamlets Council, explains: “External wall insulation systems provide a lot of advantages, especially as we predominantly work with educational buildings that are required to achieve significant thermal performance levels.
“StoTherm Classic is extremely efficient, offering quick and easy installation. It allows great flexibility in the construction process and the price is an added benefit - particularly against London stock bricks. StoTherm Classic is very cost effective as a product. The render system also presents the opportunity to colour the facade and the durable coating is an added bonus. The colour range that the Sto system could offer us was also very important as colour was an essential part of the design concept.
“We use Sto because we have used their systems before and they have performed well. Our contractors use their products and have no problems. They offer an efficient service and have honest price listings. Sto is a serious player where external wall insulation systems are concerned.”
The overall project cost an estimated £3.6 million.
