Replacing a venerable fifteen year old Zettelmeyer 802 machine, the L40B becomes the prime mover at the family business located on the outskirts of Ashburton, Devon. Established in 1965 by the current proprietor’s father, Fine Turf (Devon) Ltd evolved from dairy farming and is now in the hands of son Dave White. His company has built up a reputation for providing quality turf and a whole range of specialist soils for the private sector, race courses and sports pitches in the south west of England. “After fifteen years it was time to invest in new technology,” commented Mr White. “Yes, we’ve had some problems over the time with the old machine, but I have been impressed with the way Volvo has given us support in fixing them so decided to opt for the L40B .”
The L40B is powered by Volvo four cylinder engine developing 94hp at 2200rpm coupled to a hydrostatic transmission offering full power shift under load both when changing direction and between speed ranges. The L40B features an articulated oscillating joint for optimum manoeuvrability and traction and both axles have 100% hydraulically activated diff locks. The machine has been supplied to Fine Turf (Devon) Ltd with a Volvo hydraulic quick fit, 1.2m³ straight edged bucket and fork frame and 1100mm tines being deployed handling and loading pallets of newly cut turf and blending and rehandling various types of soil through screens and in the storage sheds. Around 4000 tonnes of material is blended, rehandled and dispatched from the premises per annum.
