We're recruiting a Head of Retrofit Compliance for an established energy efficiency and renewables contractor. They deliver domestic retrofit schemes and large-scale commercial installations, including solar PV, heat pumps and insulation on major warehouse projects.
About the role
Retrofit is a fast-growing area, and our client is looking for a Head of Retrofit Compliance to lead its retrofit division at senior management level. As Head of Retrofit Compliance, you'll own quality, compliance and health and safety across domestic and commercial work, keeping PAS 2030/2035 and MCS certifications secure, projects audit-ready and funding unlocked without clawbacks.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a commercially aware professional who can take ownership and drive the division forward from day one
Key responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead the retrofit division as part of the senior management team
- Build and develop the retrofit team as the division grows
- Manage all subcontractor relationships and hold them to quality standards
- Monitor and report on all retrofit activity and compliance
Project compliance
- Oversee compliance frameworks for domestic retrofits and large-scale warehouse energy installations
- Monitor project milestones from a quality perspective, ensuring sign-offs at critical stages of each installation
- Make sure subcontractors and in-house teams meet client specifications
Certification and standards
- Maintain and enforce PAS 2030/2035 standards across all residential installations
- Oversee MCS compliance for domestic renewables and commercial rooftop solar and heat pumps
- Act as the main point of contact for accreditation bodies and manage audits across residential and commercial portfolios
Funding assurance
- Audit installation documentation to ensure zero-defect submissions for government grants and commercial subsidies
- Use compliance data to help clients access public sector decarbonisation funds, capital allowances and energy efficiency incentives
- Make sure field evidence meets TrustMark, energy supplier and commercial funding criteria to prevent clawbacks
Health, safety and environment
- Develop and implement site-specific HSE policies for occupied homes and operational warehouse sites
- Manage site risks, including working at height on rooftop solar, heavy machinery and CDM 2015 regulations
- Carry out regular site risk assessments and make sure field teams are fully trained in safe working practices
Qualifications and experience
- In-depth, practical knowledge of PAS 2030/2035 and MCS (essential)
- At least 5 years in a senior compliance, quality or project-aligned role in UK energy efficiency, renewables or industrial construction
- A proven track record of leading a retrofit division
- Experience managing compliance across both domestic schemes and large commercial or industrial contracts
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (Diploma desirable)
- SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015, including acting on behalf of the Principal Contractor/Designer
- Understanding of compliance linked to ECO, BUS, public sector schemes or commercial energy efficiency incentives
- Retrofit Coordinator training (desirable)
- Candidates who have delivered a large-scale social value retrofit programme and are ready to step up into a head-of role will also be considered
Interview process
Two stages: a Microsoft Teams call, followed by a face-to-face interview.
